Shackleton Duke are currently recruiting for an Estimator/Pre Construction Planner for our client to be based in Fort McMurray with travel to various sites in the surrounding area. The role will be responsible for calculating the tenders for the companies multi family residential and project customers and for preparing the tender prices from the architectural drawings and BOQs ensuring the company can profit from the project. This role will also assist the residential construction division by assisting in the planning process from building envelope through turnover to construction.
As a preconstruction planner this role will prepare the development and building permit application documentation including building, development, deck, detached garage, basement development and legal basement suite permits. This role will then apply for building pockets, plot plans, and architectural control approvals before requesting any drawing changes, and review changes to be made. This position will apply for land title certificates, gas and electricity site IDs and will register with Alberta New Home Warranty and obtain development permits for the project.
In this role you will be tasked with preparing the construction document packages to be submitted to the residential construction group and will oversee the creation and distribution of subcontractor contracts. This position will see you updating the Volume Forecast monthly, outlining ownership of lots and tracking production on projects as well as consolidating the planning and schedule sheets monthly and preparing and reviewing the Pre-Construction Progress Report weekly with GM and Sales Manager.
This position will work closely with the estimating manager and will be responsible for the calculation of tenders for customers ensuring the company can achieve an adequate return on employed resources for projects. This role will review the architect's drawings and BOQs supplied by the project client, and will then prepare tender prices. The estimator will liaise with suppliers and collect quotes for materials and produce estimates for the cost of plant and equipment. This role will then be responsible for scheduling the timeframe for labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractor arrangements. This position will have responsibility for calculating the final figure for the estimated cost, and will make amendments for overheads and profit.
The estimator will track the estimates against actual costs and will look to identify possible improvements to the processes as well as revising bid packages and preparing addendums as needed. When work contracts are won the estimator will input the job estimates into the Timberline system accounting system for future monitoring and to store the costs for future pricing.
For this position you must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have a minimum of 5 years experience in estimating projects along with experience in a planning function. You will need to be familiar with the standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the construction industry in Canada in particularly in relation to residential projects.
